Reed heads striking trio returning to York City

JAMIE Reed, Tom Platt and Ben Everson are all set to be given second chances to contribute to York City’s season.

The loaned-out trio were expected to end this term at Cambridge United, Harrogate Town and Gateshead respectively, but new boss Nigel Worthington wants an all-hands-to-the-pump approach as the club aim to preserve their League Two status.

“It’s only right that contracted players should be in and around the club over the next ten games as York City are paying their salaries and they should be part of anything that is going on in the next two months,” Worthington reasoned. “I hope that’s for the good of York City Football Club.”

First-year professional Platt has netted 11 times during just 16 games from midfield during two spells with Harrogate this season but is yet to make his debut for the Minstermen.

Worthington, though, has suggested that his tender teenage years would not stand in the way of a senior opportunity if he can prove his worth when recalled, saying: “I love to give youth a chance and always encourage young players to push through.

“Supporters like to see a fresh face in the team and it’s also good for other young players at the club to see somebody break through. It makes them realise that if they work hard enough, they might get that opportunity as well.

“It’s got to be done in the right interests of the team but, if people can make that step up and are not fazed by it, they will get that chance.”

This is a masterstroke imo especially regarding Platt. We are crying out of a midfielder who can score goals. I'll always be happy to see Reed in a York shirt. Him and Rankine were very effective in BSBP maybe it's time to try it again.

Very shrewd, bringing back those players at this time (Harrogate will be gutted though ((tuff t***y)). A sense of real togetherness for the remainder of our season should inspire the squad to start turning things around. Come On!

As Reedy and Everson were not even getting a regular starting place at Cambridge and Gateshead, in the BSP, its a surprise that they are being recalled, but I admire the Managers thinking. Platt has never been given a run out in the first team, so he probably deserves his chance.

As I understand it, this is a separate loan from the first and not an extension, so Platt cannot be recalled until the end of the month. (Platt has retweeted something to this effect on Twitter). However, I expect that he trains with City half the week anyway, as Harrogate are p/t. So NW will run the rule over him then.

The same of course applies to the others; the minimum period before a loan player can be recalled is one month.
