10:42am Tuesday 5th March 2013 in Sport
CAROL Perrett hit a tremendous 108 finish (treble 20, 16, double 16) as Walnut entered the pairs on level terms at Lions in the York John Smith’s Ladies Darts League division one.
Perrett then paired up with Babs Harrison to edge in front. Anne Bass and Shona Benson levelled to set up the decider, which saw Walnut captain Di Moreland and Sandra Winters snatch victory.
Despite the loss, Lions stay in second place as close rivals Tramways suffered at the hands of visitors Cueball ‘A’, who have grown in strength this season.
Joan Hunter gamed in 25 darts as the snooker club side entered the pairs only needing one point from the pairs for a fine win, with captain Faye Hawksby and Barbara Russell sealing victory.
Hunter and Linda Welch added to their tally with a superb 20-dart pairs leg.
Leaders Cueball ‘B’ had Natalie Farmeary closing 79 then Lynne Clapham, Gina Whittaker and Tracey Farmeary gave them a 4-2 lead against Slipper. Vicky Middleton and Doreen Johnstone replied for the visitors.
Cueball won the remaining legs and, with only two matches left, look to have secured the title.
Magnet pairing Maggie Tottie and Denise Fowler secured a win at Flag in a close-fought match.
The race for honours in division two is hotting up as second-placed Edinburgh made home advantage count.
Anthea Jamieson and Jan Netherwood won before a super 23-dart leg from Bootham Club’s Jane Barnes narrowed the gap before Julie Stables and Donna Lynes sent the home side into the pairs with a 4-2 advantage.
Barnes and Julia Hagyard narrowed the gap, but Netherwood and Stables secured victory, with Pat and Anthea Jamieson adding to their tally, closing the gap between first and second to two points.
Angie Blackmore, partnering Burton WMC captain Linda Embleton, sealed victory against visitors Acomb ‘A’.
Last pairing Carol Sykes-Waller and Karen Hodgson snatched victory against visitors Severus ‘B’.
Severus ‘A’ were gifted their points as Turpin could not field a team.
Laura Heward closed treble 18, double ten for a 23-dart pairs match-winning leg with Jubilee captain Heather Bulmer against division three visitors Shoulder ‘B’, whose Joyce Kane hit the tons.
Shoulder ‘A’, with a resounding 7-2 win against visitors Slipper ‘B’, leap over Jubilee and go into pole position.
Shoulder’s Charlotte Scott sealed victory after they were prevented from a full house in the singles by Janine Cartwright.
Sun edged out hosts Woolpack 7-4.
