York City forward Ben Everson joins Gateshead on loan

YORK CITY striker Ben Everson has joined Gateshead on a month's loan.

The 25-year-old, who only joined the Minstermen last month following a period on trial at Bootham Crescent, has struggled for first team opportunities and has gone to the Blue Square Bet Premier side to get more game time.

Fantastic! Glad we've been paying his wages for the last month. Another astute signing from Mills.

Could have invested the wage money spent on the players who havent played to buy fewer but far better players!

Hes not guarenteed a game at Gateshead. A this stage if he is to figure in our plans surely staying and seeing the way we are playing or not as the case may be would be more useful. he will be let go in the summer like most mills loan disasters.

Agree! A month at The Heed and getting a game in the BSBP - get him back at BC for the last six weeks of the season, fired-up and fit - makes sense. Michael Rankine is not fully fit and puts that down to Aldershot not having a reserve team, so it makes sense to loan fringe players out for match practice.(Hope Ranks is putting in the extra training, in preparation for the Oxford/Rotherham/Bra
dford games!!) Let the manager manage and lets see where we are in a months time, before certain posters launch into any more acerbic, over the top remarks. COYR.

To be honest, I'm not sure what to think at the moment.

Probably a good move for the lad but (notwithstanding Ranks etc etc in) a tad confusing.

For what my twopenneth's worth, we "only" need 8 or 9 points - could be half way there by this time next week and so I for one hope the Club holds it's nerve with GM - too late for a change now IMO. I will stand to be corrected if things go even more pear shaped

That said, I'm not sure about the man's longer term tenure in the role

Here in Bristol, there's no doubt Rovers timed their change perfectly. 20 games to go, proven (even if not the most succesful) League manager

Roll on 23rd / 30th March for what could prove to be more than my easier games to get to.......

I think a lot of fans wanted Gary Mills to give us a quick fix regarding our lack of goalscoring. But by signing Everson and McDaid he has brought in two players who will probably need twelve months before they are anywhere near Football League standard. That might pay off in the long term, but it wont help us this season. Not having a reserve team in a competative league does not help. Certainly recruiting players is not one of Gary Mills best talents.

You do have to worry about GM's judgement in player purchase

Everson was looked at on trial - so presumably he was judged OK - but then it's taken a month to find out he's not strong/fit/talented enough.

So he might get game time in a team a division below us....and that kind of performance will solve our striking woes ????

Ultimately, this is why not having a reserve team in a competitive league is false economy

We should have kept Jamie Reed. On the note of sacking, do we have to pay Mills off, because if I got sacked from work I wouldn't be paid off unless I took my employers to a tribunal for unfair dismissal. Is it a different rule for football managers?

I hope I'm wrong, but it seems to me that Mills has absolutely no idea on how to sign a striker. What with Ashikodi, Henderson, Everson, McDaid, Rodman etc... and the fact that we're not scoring very much, this could be a large factor in the downfall of Mills. Lets get rid now before it's too late.

Ok, IF, we have to keep Mills as manager there must now be a strong case for bringing someone in in a director of football role to oversee transfers and stop Mills wasting any more of our money on signing DROSS. The money we would have to pay him in salary would be more than made up for by not signing numpties who are never going to get in our team.

Contracts are not worth the paper they are wrote on these days. I was also thinking a new manager might be the kick up the backside the players need. They might start playing better thinking "hang on a minute a new mans in charge, I'd better prove myself so he can keep me on". Its just a thought.

Oh it's you again, long time no hear. Another 'Gary Clapper' on the forum. Was it you who said Chambers would be our top scorer? I can't remember. I'm also pretty sure that in all the time I've posted on here, I'm yet to be proven wrong. For the record, I thank Gary for everything he's done to date and I hope that come the end of the season I'll be apologising for some of the comments I've made. However, where as you and others won't have a bad word said, I don't believe that Mills should be let off because of what we did last season. Managers come and go, but the fans are here forever - you should remember that and you should also take note of all of the posters who are very unhappy with Gary Mills. I saw this coming a long time ago and I wasn't afraid to say so.

Any more clichés, too many people on here are influenced by what they read and see in the media, rather than forming their own views on an informed basis. A binding contract is of course legally enforceable if a party to it chooses to take action.

I find it strange that Everson was signed after a period of training where " we`ve had a good look at him". Now is not the time to train too many players for the forthcoming season as we don`t know what league we will be playing unfortunately. Given that optimism is needed, surely Everson has looked League 2 standard ? I may be wrong and he may go to Gateshead and get valuable match time and come back all guns blazing but we need strikers NOW !!

Sorry, what I meant to type was that the current squad and management are several streets ahead of the sides that 'played' for City between '78-'82. We had re-election in those days, had there been automatic relegation we'd quickly have slipped through the pyramid and would probably be playing in NECL now!
