ANOTHER busy weekend for the Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers saw 17 members take part in the NYSD cross country fixture at Richmond racecourse, which was also a club championship race.

Pat Kirby led the ladies home, finishing 46th in 27 minutes and 33 seconds, with Carol Morrison 47th in 28.13 and Christine Burn 57th in 30.45, having a fight to the finish and just pipping Claire Gillan, who finished in 58th with a 30.47.

Cath Lumb came home in 60th in 33.23 and Marian Codling 61st in 38.23.

The V65 men completed the same course, Geoff Bullock coming fourth in 26.37 and Ian Codling seventh in 35.11.

In the men’s race, over twice the length, Merv Burn was the first club finisher, 22nd in 41.06, with Stephan Tomaszewski 27th in 42.09, Rob Burn 34th in 43.11, Martyn Coy 57th in 46.24, Hywel Smith 69th in 49.57, Steven Scott 70th in 50.14, Bryan Miller 72nd in 51.14, David Read 73rd in 51.53, Richard Easby 78th in 59.24 and Phillip Craig 79th in 60.09.

The morning race, the Commondale Clart, had four members participating out of a field of 128. Chris Raw came 45th in a time of 48.05, Lorraine Hiles 66th in 51.54, Nicola Booth 84th in 53.30 and Steve Booth 100th in 56.36.

The Thirsk 10 will take place on March 24.
