York IBC won the Yorkshire Ladies League with a game to spare when they picked up the maximum ten points from their 106-54 win over Ryedale.

With close rivals Harrogate needing to win to maintain the pressure on York, they lost 6-4 on points.

At home, both rinks were comprehensive winners with Helen Wood’s getting off to a great start, leading 20-3 after ten ends. They maintained the pressure and gave Sue Allen’s rink very little chance of making a comeback as they went on to win 39-6.

The side led by Carol Instone trailed 3-1 after three ends but a five and then a three underpinned a 28-12 win.

Away, Linda Harrison’s team had a comfortable 21-5 lead with six ends to play but had to hang on as Margaret Watson’s side came back in style to only go down by two shots 22-20.

Melanie Brookes’ team got off to a good start, leading 12-6 after ten ends before Maureen Croser’s team clawed back the deficit to be level at 15-15 by 18.

Singles were scored on the remaining three ends but, fortunately for Brookes, two of them went to her side to win 17-16.
