‘Lucky’ Barnet boss Edgar Davids praises hosts York City

DUTCH legend Edgar Davids admitted his Barnet side were a little fortunate to clinch a 2-1 win at York City.

The former AC Milan and Barcelona midfielder, who played the whole game at Bootham Crescent, also had words of encouragement for beaten boss Gary Mills, praising the Minstermen’s commitment to playing attractive football.

Davids said: “We knew they had a lot of energy, but we perhaps did not anticipate that they would start like they did for the first ten minutes when they went in front.

“I also like the way they play football. More teams should do that in League Two, but you also have to fight for your points.

“Unfortunately, for them, we got a bit lucky and their pitch, which was very bobbly, did not really suit the way they want to play.”

Well, there you have it from the Dutch Master!! He's right about the pitch and I'm sure plenty of fans have thought the same, in that it doesn't suit our passing game once it starts to cut-up! The groundstaff, no doubts, try their very best to get the playng surface as good as they can but the pitch is too tight and the surface a bit challenging during Winter and this is probably more reason for Gary Mills to have a Plan B - not quite hoofball but certainly a little more direct and a few physically bigger players to match the conditions! Once we get to a new ground and playing surface, then, it will be just like the San Siro and the Camp Neu!! In the meantime, let's have team spirits raised and heads-up and to take on the remaining games of the season with plenty of confidence and loads of commitment and dare I say it - some goals!! Nothing less will do and the whole City playing staff need to put some real fire in their bellies over the next ten weeks and get to that 50+ points target!! COYR.

Edgar Davids knows that Gary Mills is coming under pressure, so this is just a show of solidarity between Managers. Barnet deserved to win for any team who can battle out the last seven or eight minutes with nine players, deserves all the luck that they can get.

I wouldn't be confident we would beat a side with 9 men over 70 or 80 minutes never mind 7 or 8!
