FULFORD’S Bob Smith made it four wins in seven years when he beat Bootham’s Lionel Barnes in the final of the York Conservative Clubs’ Brian Jeffrey Memorial Over-50s Snooker Trophy.
Smith (+18 handicap) fed on mistakes by Barnes (+12 handicap) to lead 38-21 and maintained his advantage as Barnes potted four reds but only one colour.
Barnes also failed to take a colour with the last red and fouled on the black to trail 62-33, before eventually conceding on the brown at 72-33.
In the first semi-final, Smith, pictured, had come from behind to beat Bootham’s Alf Appleby (+16 handicap) 63-60, while Barnes was also in arrears against Acomb’s Ken Taylor (+7 handicap) heading into the colours but responded to win 53-45.
The matches were refereed by Richard Lillie and Trevor Ventress, and the trophies were presented by Dougie Robinson for sponsors B Jeffrey Construction Ltd.
