10:09am Monday 11th February 2013 in Sport
SELBY Town’s run of 14 games without a win in the Northern Counties East League ended in style with a 4-1 thumping of Yorkshire Amateur.
The Robins, whose last win came at Bottesford on September 26, are now 11 points adrift of second from bottom Amateur with four division one games in hand.
New striker Danny Gray, signed from Tadcaster Albion, scored the home side’s first and last goals at Flaxley Road.
Gray netted on 16 minutes, Josh O’Neill made it 2-0 only two minutes later, and the hosts led 3-0 at the break thanks to Jack Wooley’s 41st minute goal.
Gray’s second came with ten minutes remaining, two minutes before Amateur’s consolation through Glenroy Hilton.
Former Selby striker Craig Heard bagged the winner for Knaresborough Town as they beat Emley 2-1.
Hosts Emley led through Paul Sykes’ 44th-minute goal, but Byron Littlefair levelled for fifth-placed Town on 52 minutes and Heard struck with ten minutes remaining.
Tadcaster Albion took a point from a see-saw encounter with Armthorpe Welfare in the premier division.
Callum Ward gave the Brewers the perfect start on three minutes, but former York City striker Leo Fortune-West equalised for the hosts on 23 minutes.
Armthorpe led 2-1 at the break thanks to Stuart Gibbard’s 39th-minute goal, but Albion then went 3-2 up with Josh Barrett and Steve Jeff both getting on the scoresheet in three minutes around the hour mark.
However, Craig Morley salvaged a point for Welfare in the 67th minute.
Pickering Town were pegged back by Lincoln Moorlands Railway in a 1-1 draw, Luke Forbes’ second-half strike for the hosts cancelling out Jamie Patterson’s 11th-minute opener for the Pikes.
Scarborough Athletic remain two points clear at the top after a 2-1 win at Arnold Town, sealed with goals from Ryan Blott, on 36 minutes, and Tony Hackworth, on 63 minutes.
Harrogate Town slipped to ninth in Blue Square Bet North after a 2-1 defeat at third-placed Brackley, with defender Alan White shown a red card after the final whistle.
Izak Reid opening the scoring for the hosts on 38 minutes and White was booked in the aftermath of the goal. White’s foul in the box was punished with a penalty on 59 minutes and Jefferson Louis made it 2-0.
Ex-Leeds United junior Michael Woods pulled a goal back in injury time, and White’s post-match protests earned him a second yellow card.
Harrogate Railway Athletic let slip a two-goal lead as they drew 2-2 at home to Radcliffe Borough in Evo-Stik League division one north.
Railway led at Station View through Martin Parker’s third-minute own goal and Alex Hallam made it 2-0 on 24 minutes.
However, Borough’s Darren Sheridan got a goal back on 76 minutes and Matthew Chadwick levelled six minutes from time.
