EX-CHELSEA midfielder Michael Woods will make his Harrogate Town debut at Bootham Crescent tonight, kick-off 7.45pm.

Town host Workington in York with their troubled Wetherby Road pitch unplayable and Pocklington-born Woods has signed for Simon Weaver’s men after his release from Doncaster.

The 22-year-old midfielder – grandson of 1960s City favourite Alan Woods and nephew of ex-Minsterman Neil – moved to Stamford Bridge at the age of 16. The Blues were ordered to pay £5 million compensation to Leeds for himself and fellow academy player Tom Taiwo.

Woods represented England at under-16s, U17s and U19s but his professional career was limited to just 11 appearances, nine as substitute, at Chelsea, Notts County, Yeovil and Doncaster.

Workington are managed by former York right-back Darren Edmondson.
