Road to success for Harrogate Town after Wetherby Road pitch battle
11:21am Friday 1st February 2013 in Sport
Life away from Wetherby Road is suiting Harrogate Town.
Simon Weaver’s men, who play Workington at York City’s Bootham Crescent ground next Tuesday, borrowed Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium for their Blue Square Bet North game against Corby Town in midweek and ran riot when winning 6-1.
They are due to play Guiseley at home tomorrow if their troubled home pitch can take the strain.
Of the continuing work to sort out the playing surface, chairman Irving Weaver said: “While we have finished the additional drainage we have to now returf where the pitch is bare and holding surface water.
“Completion of this work is subject to weather. It is not carrying out the work that is the problem in the time scale.
“It is if the pitch is sufficiently dry to allow men and vehicle to take up and cart away the existing top soil, deliver and lay the rolls of new turf without further damaging the pitch.
“Earlier returfing has been successful, we just need more of it.”
Harrogate Railway Athletic are at Burscough in Evo-Stik League division one north.
