COACH Richard Nicholson is aiming to carry Selby RUFC’s five-match winning run in Yorkshire Two into tomorrow’s Senior Vase opener against Winlaton Vulcans.

The Swans are involved in a three-team pool to decide the North East qualifiers, with tomorrow’s Sandhill Lane game following by a trip to Blyth on February 23.

Nicholson, whose side are pushing for promotion from Yorkshire Two, is keen to challenge for honours on two fronts, with the club potentially only four games away from a Twickenham final in the Vase.

“The players are excited about it, as is the whole club,” said the coach.

“Yorkshire clubs tend to do quite well in these competitions. Last year, three Yorkshire clubs got to the various finals so we’ve got something to live up to.”

Full-back Sam Weller misses the game as he will be at Twickenham for England’s RBS Six Nations opener, while Matthew Wood is rested due to a shoulder injury.
