Bowls: York's title tilt fades against Scarborough flair

YORK Indoor Bowls Club’s division one title hopes in the Yorkshire League all but disappeared as they were beaten 85-79 by Scarborough, losing by 15 points to three.

Dave Stroughair’s away rink finished first. After overturning a 13-4 deficit to go into their last end leading 16-15, they dropped a three to lose 18-16.

Next to finish was Paul Humphreys’ home team, who had come from 6-1 down to lead 9-6 and then hit back from 18-15 down to go into their last end 20-18 before dropping a single.

Dave Attwood’s team pulled the score back to 21-18 against them going into the last before dropping a two to lose 25-18.

Last to finish was Mark Clarke’s rink in Scarborough. They put in a good performance in a high-scoring game, but it was too much to ask for an eight on their last end to secure an aggregate share of the spoils.

However, they scored two to earn a creditable 25-25 draw from their game.

On Saturday, York look to get back to winning ways as they play third-placed Selby.

In division two, New Earswick play Hornsea in a must-win game in their promotion push.
