HULL boss Peter Gentle could not say which of his players will be regularly freed up to don York City Knights shirts as part of the partnership between the clubs – but he did state a list would be made available each week.

The link-up – one of several new partnerships between Super League and Championship clubs – has seen 12 of Gentle’s squad dual-registered with York, meaning they could play for Gary Thornton’s Knights side when not required for the Airlie Birds’ first team.

A maximum of five can turn out for a partner club in any one match.

“I will be talking to Gary regularly about what he needs and what we need,” said Gentle.

“Each week will be different depending on what we’re going through.

“Our injuries and the situation we’re going through will dictate that.

“It will depend on the period we’re going through and whether we want to keep players back to keep them fresh.

“There will be players available every week, though, and then it’s up to Gary Thornton.”

The Super League reserve/academy system has changed from under-20s to U19s, with overage players no longer eligible, which means several Hull players not in their Super League side will get no game-time unless lent to Huntington Stadium.

Partnership agreements have been criticised by some as feeder club arrangements, but Gentle said: “York is Gary’s team. York are a single identity, their own identity. Our boys have to fit in with them.

“I will have a list each week and he will be picking who he wants.”
