YORK’S Nicky Horn was beaten in the final of the Italik Yorkshire Closed Squash Championships at York Squash Club.
British over-45 champion Horn went down 3-0 (9-2, 9-5, 9-6) in 27 minutes to England junior Katie Smith at Clifton Park.
Pontefract’s Adam Taylor won the men’s tournament, beating Chapel Allerton’s Niall McKinnon 3-0 in the final in 29 minutes.
After comfortable victories over Sam Mawson, of York St John University, and Ross Williamson in the early rounds, Taylor beat Chapel Allerton’s Dominic Hamilton 3-1 in the semi-finals.
The other semi-final was also Pontefract versus Chapel Allerton but this time the Leeds club prevailed with McKinnon beating number one seed Sam Wileman 3-1.
The men’s plate was won by Dave Allen, who beat Brad Gallivan 3-2 (11-5, 5-11, 5-11, 11-4, 11-3).
The ‘B’ competition was won by York’s Marc Thomas, who ousted local rival Rod Erridge 3-2 (4-9, 3-9, 9-5, 9-2, 10-8).
The ‘B’ plate went to Nick Bond, who edged past Luis North 3-2 (9-4, 5-9, 9-4, 7-9, 5-9).
