Harrogate Town set for Keepmoat switch
11:45am Friday 18th January 2013 in Sport
Harrogate Town’s game against Boston in Blue Square Bet North is likely to need a pitch inspection – and not just because of the wintry weather.
The poor state of the Wetherby Road playing surface has forced the club to rearrange its upcoming match against Workington.
Due to have been played on February 5, it will now be completed 50 miles away at Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium on Tuesday.
The Harrogate pitch was relaid in the summer but has struggled to take and now the bad weather is further “hampering progress”.
The club are trying to find alternative grounds, which meet Conference requirements, to fulfil home fixtures, with chairman Irving Weaver saying: “It has been a difficult time for everyone. Players just want to play and our supporters are frustrated not having any football at Wetherby Road.
“Further remedial work is under way, but adverse weather is hampering progress.”
Harrogate Railway Athletic are due to host Skelmersdale United at Station View in Evo-Stik League division one north.
