11:42am Friday 18th January 2013 in Sport
LEADERS King William ruled – but only just – in the table-topping Ian’s Cars of Barlby Sunday Morning Football League division one clash.
A 3-2 triumph over Acomb Celtic widened King William’s advantage to eight points.
George Bissett fired the leaders ahead in the fifth minute and just after half an hour further goals were added by Danny Gray and Bissett.
But Cameron Sanderson reduced the arrears before half-time and Celtic carried on to perform strongly and be rewarded with a 74th-minute blast from Mark Benton.
However, despite further pressure from Celtic the King William defence held out for the win.
Leeman United won 10-2 at Haxby Lions in division two.
On target for the visitors were Mark Moore (3), Liam Stilgoe (2), James Barrett, Neil Hartley, Rich Johnson, Craig Fletcher and Jack Condren. The Lions’ replies were bagged by Dale Waddington, and Tom Kilvington.
An own goal started Bubwith Nomads’ 5-0 beating of Beeswing. Craig Hodgson completed a hat-trick with Sam Milner also on target.
York Five Lions top division three on goal difference after convincingly ending Huntington Rovers’ 24-game unbeaten run.
Liam Keenaghan top-scored in the 7-1 win with a treble, boosted by Shaun Webster, Ash Walker, Simon Gilroy and Will Moore goals.
Andy Manns and Joe Barritt sealed Bishopthorpe’s 2-1 win at York RI for whom Ben Hodgson replied.
Division four table-toppers Britannia scrambled Eggborough Rangers 6-1 with five goals from Adam Simeonedis and a lone Andy Simpson strike.
