A COMPREHENSIVE 4-0 home win over Lincoln City ensured York City’s youth team kept pace with the leaders of the Football League Youth Alliance North East Conference, writes Ben Middleton.
The Minstermites are fourth in the table, three points behind pacesetters Hull City, after despatching basement side Lincoln, who had a man sent off.
After missing a few half chances, some good link up play between the forwards saw Ollie Smith make a good run in behind the defence before the bottom right of the Imps goal on 15 minutes.
The visitors were reduced to ten men when an overhead kick from Smith was handled on the line by Lincoln’s right-back. Danny Middleton made it 2-0 from the penalty spot.
The Lincoln ’keeper made a great save from Ben Middleton’s header, but York led 3-0 at the break thanks to Cameron Murray’s confident finish.
York dominated the second half and a great run by Murray gave him a one-on-one chance with the ’keeper, but he put his shot narrowly wide.
Rob Moncur also went close after getting on the end of some good crosses before an edge-of-the-box shot from Reece Kelly was palmed into the net by Lincoln’s ’keeper.
A good save from Josh Archer late in the game preserved York’s clean sheet as they made an impressive start to the second half of the season.
