11:11am Monday 14th January 2013 in Sport
CALLUM WARD’S last-minute penalty miss proved costly as Tadcaster Albion were held to a 1-1 draw at struggling Winterton.
Former York City youth team midfielder Nick Thompson gave the Brewers the lead on 13 minutes against the Northern Counties East League premier division’s bottom side.
However, Rangers levelled on half-time through Tom Finnigan and Ward then wasted the last-gasp opportunity to snatch the points from the spot.
A last-minute goal consigned Pickering Town to a 3-2 home defeat by Retford United.
The Pikes led 2-0 after second half goals from Tom Reid, on 48 minutes, and Joe Danby, on 59, but three late strikes left Jimmy Reid’s men empty-handed.
Richard Medcalf netted after 78 minutes and Kyle Hadley levelled with three minutes remaining, before Craig Fisher’s winner.
Leaders Scarborough Athletic moved six points clear with a thumping 5-1 win at Thackley, while rivals Bridlington Town were held 1-1 at home by Glasshoughton Welfare.
Thackley led at half-time through Matt Hall’s tenth minute goal but Ryan Blott scored a half hour hat-trick after the break and Tony Hackworth and Jimmy Beadle rounded off the rout.
Ten-man Selby Town are 13 points adrift at the bottom of division one after they lost 2-1 at home to Hemsworth Miners Welfare while Appleby Frodingham beat Grimsby Borough 2-0.
Knaresborough Town are third following their 2-1 home win over Rossington Main, supplied by two first half goals from former Selby and Haxby United striker Craig Heard, a new arrival from Yorkshire Amateur.
Harrogate Town’s game at home to Gloucester in Blue Square Bet North was postponed due to a waterlogged Wetherby Road pitch.
Harrogate Railway Athletic moved up to 16th in Evo-Stik League division one north with a 2-0 win at Ossett Albion.
Daniel Hull netted the first on 77 minutes and Alex Hallam made the game safe with two minutes left on the clock.
