Striker Jason Walker salvages a draw for York City at Cheltenham Town

A LATE goal from striker Jason Walker earned York City a 1-1 draw at npower League Two promotion-chasers Cheltenham Town.

The Minstermen held their own for 66 minutes at Whaddon Road, but striker Shaun Harrad then hit the opening goal that appeared set to lift the home side into the automatic promotion places.

In a further blow to City, defender David McGurk was stretchered off after going down injured in the build up to Harrad's goal.

Shortly after the goal, City manager Gary Mills made a double change, with Jon Challinor and up-for-sale striker Jamie Reed thrown into the action.

And, with six minutes remaining, Walker struck his eighth goal of the season from close range to salvage a point for the visitors.

The draw - York's 11th of the campaign - keeps the Minstermen in 15th place in the League Two table.

Brilliant, well done City. Mills proved he is not a 'tactical retard' (as one thicko on here has been saying) by planning well for both the weather and the opposition style of play. We pulled a point closer to the play off places - only 5 more to make up in the remaining 19 games!

Good result but don't get too euphoric. Of the bottom five, Bristol, Plymouth, Aldershot and Barnet all won, while Wimbledon drew, so reducing the gap at that end too. Remember the year we went out of the league, were we not about this position just after half term?

Yes I was thinking that myself. Hopefully we have enough but the squad is now very thin.

Yes, it's close at both ends - but our form has definitely picked up since the rather poor November results, even without making new signings. If we get Chambers back within the next few weeks (how badly is he injured?) that could make a huge positive impact going into the last couple of months of the season.

What a precious point today, but the teams below us have generally done well . A few weeks ago we were well clear of the dreaded relegation places, but now its down to just nine points. We must grind out a few three pointers, sooner rather than later.

As you say it's a few weeks out I think but McReedy back is a big plus.Coulson is probably out for the season or as good as. If we lose Reed also as I think we will it's leaving us next to nothing up front. What happened to Rodman today ?

A good battling point for "never say die" City on a heavy pitch in difficult windy conditions which would have more suited the home sides more direct approach so well done City!-I don't think we need to be looking at teams below us we need just to keep battling on & finish as high as we can-onwards & upwards for the Mighty Minstermen!

what date does the transfer window close? its starting to get a bit worrying now,every day reading other clubs in our league signing players while no sign as yet of anyone coming in to us,hope its not going to be another last minute scramble for whoevers left,specially if someone comes in and snaps reedy up which id be surprised if it did happen.

End of the month, we have these trialists from Ireland coming in next week and Mills seems quietly confident of something coming from this. I think we all now realise just how tough it is financially for the club after last weeks figures. I guess it's probably a case of bringing in enough to secure our position in the league this season and then try and push on next although the reality is we are always going to be up against clubs with way more to spend than us.

yeah Duffy those figures certainly do bring us back to reality or at least they should do.All the more reason to keep hold of such as Reed surely at least till the end of the season as someone else suggested.And also to get used to the idea that we arnt going to be a club to tempt away players such as jamille Matt etc only way is with that bit of luck we need to discover someone whos been discarded or overlooked,but equaly important to think hard before letting a goalscorer go.

Great first half with the weather conditions point and sounds like we battled in the second half which is good to hear..Just need some quailty in midfield and up front just to give us that little edge. And agree wiyh millsy that we can be a team that others find hard to play against and get something from but just need that touch of quality but well chuffed!!!

I don't see Mills ever changing to a 4-4-2 and that's the only way it's ever going to happen. Reed has been tried out wide and that never worked and Walker is always going to play ahead of him in the central striker role

When is 'big' more than 'massive' - when a grim faced Millsy said 'big' point at Cheltenham it looked like he really meant it . If we'd lost it we would have been looking one way - below us , but we are still clinging on to a playoff chance.
I can't believe Exeter are 3rd - we played them off the pitch - I know we lost.

We've just taken an away point from the 4th favourites for the title.
Yet the lily-livered yellow backs are talking about getting nervous.
Some huffy duffers seem to take delight in talking us down or trying to create an air of panic or discontent.
Thank goodness, the players have more confidence in the management and in their and the team's abilities than these so called supporters.
Or am I being taken in by the trolls??
