Helen Walker, Lynda Parker and Sue Kirkpatrick reached the National Over-55s Two-wood triples finals for the second year in succession after they beat Hartlepool 18-10 in the inter-area play-off at Thornaby Indoor Bowls Club.

The turning-point came in the third end where the Hartlepool ladies were laying six shots before Walker changed the head and picked up a four to make the score 4-2.

That gave the York team the advantage and a four on the 17th end brought a premature end to the game.

York will play Barwell at Northampton IBC on February 14.

Adam Liddell and Zoe Eagles also reached the national finals in the mixed pairs after beating North Cave’s Alistair Cook and Danni Martinson 20-17 in the area final at Selby IBC.

They will next play Glebelands (London) at Northampton IBC on Tuesday, February 12.

Eagles also qualified in the Ladies U25s singles, where she ousted North Cave’s Martinson 1.5 to 0.5 in the first round and accounted for Hornsea’s Katie Baxter 2-0 in the semi-finals.

She will be joined in the last four by Selby’s Holly Arundel who beat Lisa Cutmore in the first game then York’s Emily Clarke – both by 2-0 margins.

Eagles will play Adur’s L Kuhler and Arundel Amy Stanton of Malvern Hills in the first national round at Bristol IBC on January 26.
