York City boss speeds Henderson’s exit
11:34am Saturday 5th January 2013 in Sport
By Dave Flett, Sports reporter
LIAM Henderson has left York City after an agreement was reached over the remainder of his contract.
The 23-year-old forward, who has been farmed out to Gainsborough and Gateshead this season, has left Bootham Crescent after making only seven appearances, including four from the bench, since joining the Minstermen in the summer of 2011.
Henderson scored one goal in that time and City boss Gary Mills, having transfer-listed the former Watford striker at the start of this season, has now decided to release him.
Mills said: “His performances have not been good enough. That might sound blunt, but it’s fact.
“It’s not worked out and that’s been frustrating for him and me. What’s happened is, without doubt, the best thing for both parties as he wasn’t going to play for me this season.
“He’s got a chance now to find another club. Whether that’s Gateshead, which is where he lives, we’ll have to wait and see.”
Former City striker Richard Brodie, meanwhile, has joined Blue Square Bet Premier table-toppers Grimsby Town on loan, despite Mills suggesting yesterday he might be interested in his services.
Mills did, however, also harbour reservations about bringing Brodie back to Bootham Crescent and added: “I was interested in Richard Brodie, but Grimsby have gone in for him and he’s made a decision straight away, which is fine.
“We’ve got a couple of players on our radar, as was Richard, but if I had been completely 100 per cent sure about bringing him back, I’m sure he would be here now.
“It was a big decision to make and, if I wasn’t 100 per cent sure, that probably means it wouldn’t have been the right thing to do.”

Didn't act quick enough in my opinion. I don't see too many strikers available right now and last seasons signings in January were pretty awful. I hope GM pulls something out of the bag because missing out on a transfer target through lack of effort is a poor show.

The signing of Henderson on a two year contract was probably one of our worst ever transfer deals. Seven appearances is a very poor return for the faith that GM showed in him. More homework needs to be done in future.

I see Zebroski has been released from Cheltenham, always rated him, plays in Mills' favourite position too.
