HARROGATE Town’s return to competitive football for a fortnight and their first footing of 2013 yielded a gusty 2-1 win.
The Wetherby Roaders made the long haul to Workington yesterday after an enforced absence caused by several postponements.
They bounced back in style going ahead within eight minutes through midfielder Lee Elam.
Hosts Workington levelled just on the hour and honours even looked the likeliest outcome until Town striker Adam Baker bagged a winner four minutes from time to move Simon Weaver’s men to 12th place in the Blue Square Bet North.
Neighbours Harrogate Railway Athletic frittered away a glorious opportunity for a winning start to the year.
They went 2-0 ahead in the early exchanges through Rob Youill and Nathan Cartman at home to Farsley in the Evo-Stik League first division north duel.
But Farsley halved the deficit just before half-time.
Then, nine minutes into the second-half Farsley snatched a second goal that proved to be the last say in a 2-2 draw.
