York City draw 0-0 at Fleetwood Town in npower League Two
5:11pm Saturday 29th December 2012 in Sport
CENTRE-BACK David McGurk helped York City to a clean sheet on his first appearance in a year as they drew 0-0 at Fleetwood Town.
McGurk started in place of the injured Chris Doig as the Minstermen earned a point from their npower League Two visit to Highbury.
Midfielder Tom Platt, who had been on loan at Harrogate Town, appeared on the City bench after Jonathan Smith sealed a £50,000 switch to Luton Town.
Smith's move to Kenilworth Road - where he made six appearances during a recent loan spell - will go through on Tuesday, January 1, subject to a medical.

Not a bad point that and it sounds like we could have won it in the end. Hopefully the Smith money is going to go towards a new centre half and striker which should see us safe this season.
Great to see TY back and good riddance to J Smith .

Behave, if you take time to look at the footage from the early games his winning of second balls & link up play with Coulson was very good, he's clearly good enough to play League 2 football as he showed at Swindon, he wasn't really given a chance & the club have accepted a big offer so I don't blame him to go play regular games else where, he's a winner & wants to play all the time. Good luck to the lad!

I dont know the McGills but I do know that they put money into the club from their family business last week to cover wages after the postponed game so that players got their christmas wages and that they headed a queue of ... actually It was just them when they put their own money into City to stop the club folding forever. Like the McGills or not, the club may not be here without them so maybe at least grudging respect is deserved rather than poorly thought inuendo about the incoming transfer fee. I apologise If you were actually joking but sadly I dont think you were. Lets keep the posts to football and not personal attacks on people.

We do have some half wits submitting 'posts' in this column criticising the McGills. When will these individuals realise that this family has saved York City from extinction over many years. So can we some thought before typing senseless comments.

I have a season ticket so I am entitled to question where my money goes each year.
I can't find any rule that says I can't digress from the main headline topic on this forum.
Agree that the mcGills did save our club but how long can they wallow in that glory hiding the fact that little money is spent on players.
Where has the Wembley /promotion cash gone ?
Fair enough its a great business move for them and that's what they are in the game for(oh sorry I know they love the club it was posted in the press a few years back when they were more active).
I understand they are on a very sound investment.
I don't come on here like most of you to kiss butt when we win and doom and gloom when we loose .
I have faith in Mr Mills and his players I don't boo when we loose or moan.
I am a reformed football racist and thug.
I love the club but.....
Sadly I am sceptic about our future when it comes to finance .

Am i the only one who thinks Rodman could be the striker were looking for? Played well again today and just needs a goal or two to get everyone likeing him.
Potts had a good game agian today and diserves his starting place.
Good to see the young talent on the bench, no need to panic buy in January

Any York City fan who had seen J Smith play previously knew the type of player he was. Combative, energetic ball winner. The lads control and passing was never his strong point so I was surprised to see him join.
Doesn't fit with the midfield passing game that City now play. Unfortunately GM found that out after he signed him.
With three full time coaches at the club, I now expect any player we sign should have been watched on numerous occasions. We cannot afford any more mistakes.

Football supporters don't really do history & nostalgia, as a team and its manager is as only as good as its recent results.
Thumbing through the book there are reasons for optimism & evidence of our achilles heel that were evident right through our glorious final season in the Conference.
Firstly, the commitment to a progressive passing style of football that was often breathtaking to watch.
Secondly, an away record that was infinitely better than our home form (ring any bells?)
Thirdly, the resilience and never say die spirit of a core of players which says everything about the togetherness of the group.
On the down side, there was never a settled back four throughout the whole season & our open style often led to the concession of cheap goals e.g Darlington (Twice), Gateshead. The improved standard of Div 2 will simply not let us get away with it.
Some of GM's acquisitions were questionable and added little to the quality of the squad eg Ashikodi, Brown, Swallow. The same could be said of Bullock, the departed Smith, Blanchett etc etc.
So, as we approach 2013, in a nutshell my new years wishes are pretty simple:
Keep on keeping on with the pass and move philosophy
Acquire new recruits that will actually add to the team e.g wily, physical striker to allow for plan B
A settled defence
Easy this football management lark!!

The passionate supporters of the club put their hard earned cash into saving the club when we needed them most to raise 80k to keep the club alive with the trust. I appreciate that we need someone to bank roll the club until we get the ground sorted out and stop paying the 100K a year to the FL but its not the McGills own money and simple an invest from their family owned company. Some of the losses over the past 8 years are also down to the McGills very bad business decisions for example appointing Brass as the manager and the rest is history.
To the McGill critics, unless you are a Euro millions Lottery winner, back off. Regular "Press" readers will recall that for the season ending 2010 we lost £275k and in the season ending 2011 we lost well over £500k. These losses have to funded from somewhere and our case it is Rob McGill and his family. They are not Russian "Oiligarchs", just passionate supporters who are putting money into the club, which others seem either unable or unwilling to do. If they walk away, which I sincerely hope they don't, where would that leave us? Douglas Craig eventually walked (and did other things) due to criticism. Let's not see history repeat itself. To the critics either shut up or put your money where your mouth is.
Its very easy being a passionate supporter when you are playing chairman of a football club with someones elses money!!
