AMBITIOUS Pickering Town boss Jimmy Reid is targeting a top six finish in the Northern Counties East League premier division.

The Pikes travel to Winterton Rangers tomorrow looking to back up their 2-0 Boxing Day win at Glasshoughton and head into 2013 on a high.

Goals from John Heads and Joe Danby moved the Mill Lane club up to ninth in the table, five points behind sixth-placed Tadcaster Albion with a game in hand.

A bullish Reid said: “We are on a bit of a run and we keep moving forward. I think we will finish in the top six.

“We played a lot of the top sides early in the season when we weren’t at our best and now we are strong, we are playing the teams down the bottom.

“We are away at Winterton tomorrow and then we start the New Year with a run of five home games in a row, so we should be able to pick up some points there.”

Heads suffered a dead leg in the second half at Glasshoughton and was substituted after an hour, but Reid is expecting him to be fit for tomorrow.

Forward Ged Dalton should also come into contention after a knee injury.

Tadcaster Albion boss Paul Marshall has a welcome headache ahead of tomorrow’s home clash with Glasshoughton – and a reunion with former Brewers backroom colleagues Rob Hunter and Mark Smitheringale.

Depleted Albion were forced to field a host of youngsters at Hall Road on Boxing Day – and came away with an impressive 3-0 win.

Marshall said: “Selecting the team will be a headache after all the young lads did so well, but it is good for the club to have them waiting and raring to go.”

The game was Albion’s first in 18 days after a rain-lashed December and Marshall said: “We needed a rest because of injuries and we’re still missing a few players, which is why we fielded a side on Boxing Day with only two players over the age of 21.”

Scarborough Athletic will look to defend their four-point advantage at the top when they travel to Maltby Main tomorrow.

In division one, Selby Town boss Ian Dring will be hoping the Flaxley Road pitch recovers in time for the rearranged visit of Pontefract Collieries.

Dring has only overseen one game since taking over the Robins hot-seat on November 26, with the latest frustration coming when the original Pontefract fixture was washed out last Saturday.

The Selby manager said the club were ready to use pumps to clear any remaining water off the pitch.

Sixth-placed Knaresborough Town host Dinnington Town.

The Wetherby Road pitch has caused Harrogate Town all manner of problems this season and they will be hoping it is fit to host tomorrow’s game against Droylsden.

The club’s Boxing Day home clash with Workington in Blue Square Bet North was washed out.

Harrogate Railway Athletic face a trip to Ossett Town in Evo-Stik League division one north.
