POCKLINGTON RUFC – fresh from their Boxing Day town versus gown victory – travel to Driffield tomorrow for a derby friendly.

As most teams take a festive break from action, the games are coming thick and fast for Pock ahead of their North One East resumption at Beverley on Saturday, January 5.

The Percy Roaders have named a 20-man squad for tomorrow’s game at Kelleythorpe, which kicks off at 2pm.

They are without the suspended Chris Morton and Matt Davies, but Chris Hyde is recalled against one of his former clubs.

Back Joe Holbrough is included after shoulder surgery, along with students Pete Massie and Rich Skowronek.

They warmed up for the Driffield friendly with a 48-10 victory over Old Pocklingtonians at Percy Road on Boxing Day.

It was end-to-end stuff in the first half hour as Pocklington’s forwards held sway, while the OP backs were always a threat.

Pocklington twice went ahead as pack pressure ended with close range tries for number eight Dan Wilson, both converted by wing Billy Higgins.

But the OPs immediately responded both times to get right wing Sam Knight away and he popped the pass back inside for the school’s back row Skowronek to dive over.

That made it 14-10 with the interval approaching before Pocklington pulled clear with a lineout catch and drive try from flanker Jack Holbrough, and an opportunist score from wing Higgins, which he converted.

Pock’s pack power told in the second half as tries from prop Chris Morton and flanker Ron Kinnell, plus threequarter efforts by centre Billy Hardy and fly-half Josh Britland took them out of sight, Higgins adding another conversion.

Pocklington (at Driffield): from Webber, Stephenson, Helme, Kelly, Wilkinson, Hyde, Rowley, D Wilson, Durkin, JL Holbrough, Skowronek, M Davies, Fletcher, J Britland, Pickard, Bishop, Nixon, Massie, Bennett, JP Holbrough, T Drew. Meet 12.45pm, kick off 2pm.
