A WEEKEND washout stalled in-form Pickering Town’s surge up the Northern Counties East League premier division table.

The Pikes have hit their stride in recent weeks with a 3-1 victory over leaders Bridlington Town following a win double over Tadcaster Albion.

Manager Jimmy Reid was disappointed at the postponement of Saturday’s Mill Lane clash with Winterton Rangers, which denied his side the chance to make further advances.

Pickering are 12th in the table, but only five points behind seventh-placed Albion with a game in hand.

“It’s a shame because we had a decent result against Bridlington last week and we wanted to carry that on,” said Reid.

“We started the season slowly but we have found a bit of consistency and everything is falling into place.”

Meanwhile, Tadcaster Albion’s top-flight trip to Glasshoughton Welfare was also postponed.

The only game played saw Scarborough Athletic trounce visitors Maltby Main 4-0 to go top of the table.

The goalscorers were ex-Pickering skipper Tom Adams, Tony Hackworth and Ryan Blott, who got two.
