York Ladies ARLFC were knocked out of the Warla Challenge Cup after a 24-10 quarter-final defeat to Castleford Panthers.

In the opening 15 minutes, both sides had chances to open the scoring but solid defences held firm until Castleford took the lead with a converted try midway through the half.

Castleford then extended their lead five minutes later with a converted try, but York hit back just before the break when half-back Katie Langan twisted her way out of a tackle and raced 75 metres to score. Centre Teri Chu converted.

In the second half, Castleford went further ahead again with unconverted try before two goaled tries extended their advantage to what proved to be an unassailable 18 points.

York though never gave up and, after mounting pressure on the Castleford line and were rewarded with prop Carly Hilton powering over from close range for an unconverted try on the stroke of full-time.

York’s player of the match was loose forward Chelsea Moore backed up well by half-back Langan and prop Hilton.
