Although York Indoor Bowls Club lost 83-68 to annual North Eastern League champions Selby it felt like a victory after they won two rinks to pick up four points to move into second place in the league.
As expected Selby fielded a strong team with regular Yorkshire League players but Jean Williams’s team had an impressive win in Selby coming from 15-12 down with seven ends to play to win 23-17.
At home, Irene Paylor’s side got off to a good start with a four on the first end but neither team could pull away and the visitors drew level at 15-15 with a single on the penultimate.
However, Paylor’s team got the vital winner with a single.
The other rink at Thanet Road saw a convincing win for Jane Simpson’s team who only dropped singles to Barbara Dawson’s team in a 24-7 win, while, at Selby, Cynthia Wright’s team fended off a late rally by Pat Bracken’s side who went down by a mere 27-22.
