BEV LANGAN and Ashleigh Hyde bagged hat-tricks as York Ladies rose to fifth place in the Women’s Amateur Rugby League Association’s Winter League after a 52-20 victory over Ovenden.
Ovenden took the lead but loose-forward Langan powered over to level, with second-rower Carly Hilton converting, before centre Teri Chu raced the length of the field to score and convert.
Stand-off Emilie Hatfield weaved over after collecting the ball from a dropout and York’s advantage grew on half-time as winger Laura Pallister raced over from half-way for her first try for the club, converted by Chu.
Ovenden started brightly in the second half, bagging a converted try, but York responded through winger Hyde from close range.
Ovenden again narrowed the gap but York went further clear as hooker Natalie Hilton outpaced the defence to score, Langan bagged her second and Hyde raced 80 metres for her second, Hilton goaling all three.
Ovenden crossed again but York added to their tally as Langan and player-of-the-match Hyde completed their trebles, the latter with a 60-metre effort on full-time.
Prop Lauren Powell and second-row Claire Viney stood out.
