ACOMB regained top spot in the York Conservative Clubs’ Faber Shield Billiards League with a 4- 2 victory over Fulford.

Ken Bowser’s first-game success was levelled by Fulford’s Wayne Puleston, then Paul Holmes and John Ashwell put Acomb in a strong position.

Bob Plant’s 34-point win in the last game was insufficient to overturn the aggregate deficit.

The win moved Acomb three points clear of Bootham ‘B’, who have played three more games.

Bootham ‘A’ stifled defending champions Heworth in a 3-3 draw.

A 61-point win by Nick Parker over Gary Rogers, who made breaks of 42 and 29, together with a 53-point success by Jeff Brown against Steve Burdett decided the aggregate.

That countered wins by Keith Watkinson, Brian Birch and Jason Milner.

The draw kept Heworth six points adrift of the leaders.

Acomb’s Holmes, undefeated with six wins, heads the list in the Cameo Engraving player of the year competition.

Bootham’s Ian Robinson is second with six wins in eight games.

Rogers, of Heworth, still leads in the Cameo Engraving highest break contest with an 85 break.
