RECORDS tumbled like an avalanche as York Eagles under-16s basketball rattled up a spell-binding victory.

The North Basketball Conference leaders battered their Bradford counterparts 134-34 to rewrite the record books and sharply illustrate the gap between the top of the table and the anchor club.

The 134 points tally was a club best, as was the 100 points difference between the two sides, and 44 points scored in one quarter.

In another impressive statistic, every player scored and there were eight marksmen in double figures.

One of the highlights of the one-sided game was a points shut-out against Bradford in the opening quarter. The manof- the-match was Aidan Horton, who totally dominated at the rebounds.

Next up for the table-toppers is a tougher duel against Derbyshire after Christmas.

U16s points-scorers: Ross Leckenby 19, Christian Nicholson 17, Horton 17, Russell Quinn 17, Uji Thapa 16, Joe Metcalfe 16, Matt Ensor 11, Oliver Scott 11, Peter Pittaway 7, Adam Sedgwick 3.

A solid defensive display underpinned York Eagles U18s’ 75-21 win over ailing Huddersfield New College.

The first two quarters saw York lead 42-6, Huddersfield failing to score a single field goal in the second quarter.

Man-of-the-match Maciej Miedewski’s two sets of perfect free throws, and David Thompson’s two from two tally, were the standout displays ahead of this Saturday’s game against Rotherham at York College, tip-off 11.30am.

U18s scorers: Thompson 24, Henry McGregor 16, Alex Tuddenham 8, Tom Atherton 6, Alex Metcalfe 5, Miedewski 4, Matt Richardson 4, James Welsh 4, James Patrick 2 and Brandon Pringle 2.

However, York Eagles U14s failed to uphold the winning habit, losing 92-70 to Bradford.
