TABLE-TOPPING York College rugby league team are closing in on the Yorkshire College League division two title.
The team, coached by Jack Stearman, go into tomorrow’s home clash with Pontefract fresh from a 30-12 victory away to the same opposition.
Stearman applauded a “fantastic” effort from his depleted team, who are now four points clear at the top of the table with three games of the campaign remaining.
Tim Stubbs touched down twice for York College at Pontefract, with further tries coming from Greg Minikin, Danny Simpson and Charlie McCoy. Simpson also kicked five goals for the students.
Stearman said: “It was possibly the best performance we have had at the college.
“It was a fantastic effort and the league title is in our own hands now.”
