MISSED chances proved costly for City of York Hockey Club ladies first team against Kendal.

The hosts created as many openings as their Cumbrian opponents, but were unable to take any and lost the North League premier division tussle 2-0.

Usually quick off the mark, York were immediately under the cosh as Kendal started with intensity.

As the hosts broke back to counter, Kendal were largely first to the ball and gained command when they scored to lead 1-0 at half-time.

The second half brought much of the same, with York attacks repelled.

Frantically searching for an equaliser, Emily Thorpe flicked the ball over the Kendal ’keeper only for the effort to be cleared off the line.

Kendal doubled their lead in the last five minutes when a cross from outside the ‘D’ took an unlucky deflection off the York ’keeper to loop into the net.
