York-based jockey Robert Winston is fancied to win the Calverts Carpets York Handicap tomorrow – at Kempton.

The two-mile contest is the feature race on the card and Winston’s mount Fourth Generation is fancied to relish the step up in trip as he aims to resume winning form.

Trained at Melsonby near Richmond in North Yorkshire by Alan Swinbank, Fourth Generation has been running creditably lately, finishing fourth here three weeks ago, following a couple of decent efforts at Wolverhampton.

Thecornishcockney is likely to be popular in this race as he chases a hat-trick of wins, but a 6lb penalty may prove his undoing and, if so, Fourth Generation could be the one to take advantage.

Winston, who has been in great form lately, also has a winning chance aboard nap selection Quan in the concluding MPR Solicitors Classified Stakes.

The Swinbank-trained three-year-old has taken time to come to himself, but he came good at Southwell last time and holds every chance of doubling up in this far from demanding event.

Canadian Run contests the Betdaq Casino Games Nursery over a mile and is likely to be vying for favouritism.

The mount of Jimmy Fortune, Robert Mills’ juvenile won by a length and three-quarters here last week, which was his first run over this trip. A 6lb penalty may not be enough to stop him.

Rangi has good prospects of opening his account in the first division of the Betdaq Mobile Maiden Stakes.

John Gosden’s charge failed by only half-a-length on this course last time and is equipped with a hood for the first time tomorrow.

Gosden saddles an interesting newcomer in the second division in Thomas Hobson, a son of Halling, who will have the services of stable jockey William Buick. It would be no surprise if he shapes well on his debut.

Kalokagathia (2.45), who has finished second in his last five starts and Going Grey (5.15), returning after a lengthy break, also command respect.

At Lingfield, Hambleton trainer Kevin Ryan has a fighting chance with Waking Warrior in the Bryan Arthur Crawford Memorial Handicap.

The four-year-old, the mount of Julie Burke, is a consistent sort. A winner at Southwell two outings ago, he has since finished a fair third at the same venue.

Both those races were over six furlongs, but Waking Warrior’s style of racing suggests this extra furlong should be within his compass.

Norton jockey Tom Eaves boasts a winning chance aboard the in-form Chookie Hamilton in the Breathe Spa At Lingfield Marriott Handicap.

Trained in Scotland by Keith Dalgleish, the gelding rattled up a couple of wins at Wolverhampton and failed by only a neck to beat Stand Guard on the same track last time.

Thecornishcowboy (1.00) and Refreshestheparts (3.30) are two others to note.
