YORK Indoor Bowls Club breezed through a tricky-looking Yetton Trophy match against Yorkshire Ladies League champions North Cave, winning 108-54.

The best of York’s three winning rinks came from Linda Harrison’s away team.

They had a slender 6-4 advantage after seven ends before scoring a seven. After that they only lost four more ends and finished with an impressive 33-10 victory.

Helen Wood’s team were 10-3 down with seven ends gone, but got back to 16-14. Three losing ends yielded seven shots as they went down 23-17.

At home, Carol Instone’s team were 4-3 ahead after four ends before a six, a three and then a single gave them a cushion to build on.

That was followed by a seven, a three and a five between the tenth and 12th ends to give them a 29-6 advantage. From there the scores were shared and it finished 34-11.

Melanie Brooke’s team had an 11-7 lead with 11 ends gone before a single, six then another single set them on their way to a comfortable 24-10 win.

York now play Doncaster, 83-65 conquerors of Ryedale, in the next round a week today.

Meanwhile, York passed their toughest test yet in the Yorkshire Ladies League section ‘A’ as they maintained their 100 per cent record by beating reigning champions North Cave 84-71, picking up six points.

At home, Harrison’s team bagged a seven on the 15th end to make the score 26-9 and they won 32-16.

Brooke’s team were also in good form and, despite dropping ten shots over the last six ends, scored a 24-16 success.

Away, Helen Wood’s team were tied at 11-11 with three ends to play. They edged in front on the next but dropped a two and a single to lose 14-12.

Sheila Turpin’s team led 10-4 after nine ends, but then lost their way to surrender six of the next seven ends, dropping 19 shots and scoring only one in a 25-16 defeat.

In section ‘B’, New Earswick moved within two points of second-placed Hornsea after beating them 81-71, picking up six points.

There were two winning rinks at home. Pat Walker’s side won nine out of the last 12 ends to go from 10-9 to a 28-12 victory. Margaret Moss’ side led 24-5 with four ends to play and triumphed 27-11.

Away, Marjorie Watson’s team were 18-14 down with three ends to play but lost them all and the game 24-14.

Kath Sykes’ side won three of the last four to go from 23-7 down to lose 24-12.
