LANRE Oyebanjo suffered a hamstring injury in York City’s 1-0 friendly defeat at Scunthorpe yesterday.

The damage to the former Republic of Ireland under-21 international will now be assessed prior to Friday’s long trip to Devon, where City will face Plymouth Argyle the next day.

Oyebanjo was one of five senior City players who played in the Glanford Park reserve clash, along with David McGurk, Jon Challinor, Jamie Reed and left-back Danny Blanchett, who figured in midfield.

Former Leeds striker Mike Grella scored the only goal for a strong Scunthorpe team that also included former York College student Sam Slocombe, who has recently lost his place in goal to experienced on-loan Millwall ’keeper Steve Mildenhall.

Callum Kennedy, Robbie Gibbons, Damien Mozika, Adda Djezeri and Paul Reid were other first-team players to feature for the Iron, who also parted company with former City player-manager Chris Brass yesterday.

Brass, who had been Alan Knill’s assistant prior to the latter’s dismissal as manager last month, had been filling the same role under his successor Brian Laws but has been told his services are no longer required.
