IN-FORM York Eagles Under-16s basketball team went ton-up for the second successive week.

They battered Barrow 110-43 led by 21 points from top scorer Uji Thapa to set up this Sunday’s clash against unbeaten Newcastle, which could determine the league title.

The Eagles started with a flourish and an 18-2 lead with eight out of ten players getting on the scoresheet en route to a 32-9 first quarter advantage which achieved coach Dave Smith’s target of limiting the opposition to less then ten points.

But the second quarter revealed a chink in York’s armoury. The starters of Adam Sedgwick, Joe Metcalfe, Ross Leckenby, Oliver Scott and Aidan Horton lost the first part 13-9 before the game starters came back to rescue the situation.

A particularly good offensive third quarter was enjoyed by Oliver Scott with eight ponts with Thapa bagging 11 points in the final quarter.

The man-of-the-match was Peter Pittaway for his consistency, scoring in each quarter and his clever and aggressive defending.

Scorers: Uji Thapa 21 points; Oliver Scott 18; Peter Pittaway 13; Ross Leckenby 11, Chris Nicholson 11; Matt Ensor 10, Russell Quinn 10; Aidan Horton 9; Adam Sedgwick 4; Joe Metcalfe 3.
