YORK Indoor Bowls Club’s run of success in the Vivienne Trophy continued with a comfortable 90-64 victory over Loughborough side Charnwood.

Three rinks were won by the Thanet Road victors, who now play Hitchen-based Riverain next Thursday at the neutral venue of Lincoln.

York pulled away between the fifth and tenth ends against Charnwood to take the aggregate score from 17-16 to 43-22.

It was only after the final result was inevitable that Charnwood made the score respectable, scoring 19 shots to 11 over the last three ends.

At home, Brenda Martin’s team dropped a single on the first end then won nine of the next ten to lead 16-2.

Their supremacy was rewarded with a maximum eight on the 15th end, which moved the score to 26-5, and they won 31-12.

Joyce Gee’s side moved the score from 4-3 down to 13-4 up between the fifth and tenth ends. They only dropped singles thereafter and won easily 23-10.

Away, Irene Paylor’s team were level at 9-9 after 11 ends but, with two to go, they had done enough to win the game when they led 20-10. They finished 20-16.

Pat Bracken’s team came back from 16-10 down to level at 16-16 with three ends to play, but they lost all three in a 26-16 defeat.

Next Thursday’s tie is due to start at 12.30pm and the club will be running a coach, which is due to leave at 10am.
