KEEPING faith is the key for York City to turn around their seven match winless run, reckons Jon Challinor.

The defender-cum-midfielder says the determination and character is in the squad to haul themselves out of difficult spell and up the npower League Two table.

Citing matches like the 2-2 draw with Port Vale, where the Minstermen came back from 2-0 down to snatch a point, Challinor said the players must not let their heads drop and he remains confident City will soon start picking up wins.

“We have seen in some games that we have the determination to get back into it, we have just got to do it at home,” he said.

“We can’t let our heads drop. We know what we are capable of. It isn’t going our way but we have got to dig deep, get through it and then start to play. We have got the characters in the squad to do that.

“It’s just keeping faith with what we have got and eventually it will come.

“We know what we can do. We know we have stepped up into the League and the class is obviously evident.

“They need a couple of chances and they will take them. If we get a couple of chances, and they drop to us, then the tide will turn.”

Reflecting on the 2-0 defeat to Torquay at Bootham Crescent, a result which means York have won just two from ten at home this season, Challinor added that everyone in the squad was disappointed.

He explained: “We wanted to rectify our home form and it wasn’t the case.

“In this League they are all solid and well drilled and it is up to us to break them down. They (Torquay) came here, wanted three points and took them.

“We will go into this week, look at what we need to improve on and, hopefully, we can try to turn around the results and get three points on Saturday.

“We are all disappointed. It is not going the way we want it to go at the moment. We wanted a few more points at this point in the season.

“It’s down to us. We have got to work together and rectify the situation.

“We want this place to be a fortress but it is not happening. All we can do is get on the training field, work on the things that didn’t go right for us, and hopefully put it right.

“The obvious is putting the ball in the net. We are getting some chances but they are not falling to us.

“I don’t know what Torquay had but it seemed like there were two chances and they scored them both.

“That’s the way it is going at the minute.

“We wanted momentum from last year and the winning mentality. It hasn’t quite happened but we still need to believe.

“We’ve still got the nucleus of the squad and we just need to get back and play football and hopefully results will come.”
