THREE North League premier division points were gleaned in hard-fought style by City of York Hockey Club ladies’ first team.
In a fast start against visitors Longridge, York earned two penalty corners in the first ten minutes, but were unable to convert either.
But after much persistence Emma Pledge managed to carry the ball into the attacking 25 and lay off a weighted pass to Kirsty Rossington, who deflected the ball past the wrong-footed Longridge goalkeeper.
Sam Binns then found the back of the net from a penalty corner.
As Longridge threatened on the counter, ’keeper and player of the match Dawn Hopkins kept York in the match with several vital saves before Ali Butler bagged a third goal.
Though Longridge finally replied, York held on for the precious win.
