Selby RUFC batter hosts Castleford with 11-try victory

AN 11-try rout ensured Selby RUFC rediscovered their winning touch against Yorkshire Two whipping boys Castleford.

The Swans forwards provided the platform for the backs to play some scintillating running rugby in a 69-0 thrashing.

Young winger Charlton McCoy opening the scoring in the third minute and fly-half Josh Cruise converted.

Tries followed at regular intervals with flanker Jacob Robinson (2), full-back Dan Porter, second row Matthew Wood and Cruise all touching down in a first half that saw the hosts pose little threat to the Selby line. Cruise converted four of the tries to give Selby a 38-0 interval lead.

The second half followed the same pattern as the first, with a brace of tries from winger Ben Lunt, and a second try for both Porter and McCoy, with substitute Alex Webster also touching down. Cruise converted three of the tries to give Selby an emphatic victory.

The nearest Castleford went to scoring was midway through the second half when a kick through the Selby defence went dead with a home attacker desperately attempting the touch down. The win moved Selby into third place in the table above West Leeds, who lost at West Park Leeds, and they now boast a healthy points difference of plus-236.
