A SWASH-BUCKLING Yorkshire Squash League display secured a stirring end to 2012 for IT Sports Wigginton.
Despite missing their three leading players, the IT Sports crew staged a storming rally to vanquish visiting Barnsley 3-2.
Student Ed Shannon, playing off first, lost 3-0 to former world number 20 – and ex-Wigginton ace – Andy Whipp.
A similar 3-0 defeat was suffered by Simon Myring against Dave Evans.
Wigginton’s first score was a 3-0 walkover for Mackenzie Nichol after his Barnsley rival failed to show.
It was then left to a brace of Wigginton stalwarts to apply a winning gloss on the duel.
Manager Ian Tooms, pictured far left, was forced into making his season debut, but performed creditably to beat Matt Segar 3-0 (11-5 11-8 11-2) and then number three Jon Duffield executed the coup de grace when he came from 2-1 down to see off Mike Lowery 3-2 in an epic encounter lasting more than an hour.
