Acomb Celtic are only two points behind Ian’s Cars of Barlby Sunday Morning League leaders King William with a game in hand after beating local rivals Severus 8-2.
Cameron Sanderson hit a hat-trick, with Lee Powell (2), Mark Benton (2) and Kevin Scott also netting. Severus replied through Gareth Singleton and James Edmund.
Third-placed Wiggington’s 3-0 win at Enterprise kept them in touch at the top. Luke Roberts broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute, before Michael Clancey pounced on a back pass to lob the ’keeper and sealed matters with a fine 20-yard volley.
Hounds notched their first points of term with a 5-3 win over Skelton.
On target were Chris Jackson, Jon Page, Shane Forrest, Ryan Whitlam and Kie Latham. Kenzie Nichol and Jamie Green (2) replied, Green’s second being a 35-yard lob.
Only goal difference separates the top three in division two.
Unbeaten Hambleton, who have a game in hand on leaders Derwent United, made it five wins on the spin by beating Hemingbrough 6-1.
Ian Huddlestone and John Matthews made it 2-0 at the break, Huddlestone also missing a penalty. Oliver Lister (2) made it 4-0 before Tom Collins converted a penalty in response. Dan Smith and Kane Snelson completed the scoring.
York Medics, in third, beat Beeswing 5-1, with Luke Thornton, Phil Byass, Matt Harris, Stuart Brown and Greg Chambers netting.
York Nomads battered Haxby Lions 10-3 with Nick Lawrie (4) and Liam Wingfield (3) leading the scoring. Steve Pickup (2), his second being an acrobatic effort, and Chris Murcutt saw Marcia Grey beat Bubwith Nomads 3-0.
In division three, Jack Hulse’s 30-yard free-kick put Bishopthorpe 1-0 up at Brayton but the hosts levelled through a Craig Waugh spot-kick.
Marcia Bishopthorpe were unlucky not to claim their first point of the season when losing 3-2 to Bubwith White Swan. Jonathon Wileman (2) and Jamie Sedman put Bubwith three up at the break before two Stewart Dickinson goals gave Marcia hope.
