YORK RI RUFC may be 14 points from safety in Yorkshire Three, but coach Dan Coates is refusing to write off the season.

The New Lane outfit, who host Leeds Medics and Dentists tomorrow, have won only one of their 11 league games, but Coates is heartened by their recent performances.

Promotion-chasing Goole were given a scare earlier this month, while RI went down by only five points at Hessle last weekend.

Coates said: “We are getting closer and closer to turning it around. Every home game from now on is must win for us.

“There is a gap between us and the next team Northallerton, but there are five points to play for in each game so three wins and we are up there. It is not the end of the world.

“A lot of the teams and coaches we have played have said they don’t know what we are doing down at the bottom, but it is about turning our performances into results.”
