YORK RI RUFC were pipped 8-3 in the Yorkshire division three basement struggle against Hessle.
On the stroke of half-time, Rossa Keating landed a penalty for RI to lead 3-0.
The taut duel raged until midway into the second half when a drive by the Hessle pack went over in the corner to take a 5-3 advantage.
At the death Hessle added another penalty for their first win of term.
