Angling: Palace Ings catch buoys Tony Stephenson

YORK angling ace Tony Stephenson took the opening honours in this year’s Acomb Tackle-sponsored York Winter League.

Operating from peg 18 at the bottom of Palace Ings, he hauled in a catch of three skimmers and some roach to total 11b and 14oz and pip nearest rival Mick Doyle, of Leeds Angling Centre, by a mere two ounces.

Results: 1 Tony Stephenson (Anglers World) 11-14, 2 Mick Doyle (Leeds Angling Centre) 11-12, 3 S Snaith (White Rose) 9-3, 4 Dean Smith (Anglers World) 7-13, 5 Stan Haige (Anglers World) 7-8.
