YORK bowls star Zoe Eagles has achieved yet another ambition.

The 21-year-old has been named in the England indoor senior squad to compete at The British Isles Women’s Indoor Bowling Championships – a round-robin tournament with Scotland, Ireland, Wales and Jersey at Stanley Indoor Bowling Club, County Durham, in March next year.

Earlier this year, Eagles made her outdoor debut for the national side against Northern Ireland – playing in three winning rinks in the Home International tournament as England finished in third place.

Now the England Under-25 regular, who will next represent her country’s younger squad again in Bromsgrove in February, has come through – at her very first trial – to be picked for the full indoor squad.

Three years ago, in a Big Interview with The Press, Eagles outlined her ambitions to represent England at full international level – targets she has now met.

Meanwhile, a big money bowls tournament is set to be staged in York next year.

The York Grand Prix, with a guaranteed first prize of £3,000, will be held at New Earswick Indoor Bowls Club, with the grand final scheduled for March 24. A series of qualifiers kick off in February in a tournament which has been sponsored by Manor Farm in Reighton.

The competition has been organised by UK Bowls Challenge, fronted by Richard Lancaster. For more details about the tournament, log on to www.ukbowlschallenge.co.uk, or contact Lancaster by email on richard@ukbowlschallenge.co.uk or by calling 07446 266346.
