Leaders Heworth made a bad start by losing the first game against Fulford in the York Conservative Clubs’ Slater Cup Snooker Pairs League.

However, the axis of John McCready and Keith Batty restored the balance and Heworth then won the next four frames climaxing with Peter Hodgson and Joe Bedford (22 x 2 bks) returning a 94-16 result to ensure Heworth won 6-1.

Their unbeaten run means they now boast a six-point lead.

Bootham’s woe continued as they lost their third consecutive match to second-placed Acomb.

A 49-point win by Steve Bowker and Paul Waites and a 31-point success by George Rawling and Mike Bowker offset Bootham’s two victories by Peter Jackson and Wayne Glaister (40 points) and Norman Shipley and Ken Clifford (50 points).

Acomb took the remaining two frames and easily earned the aggregate for a 5-2 result.

In their first match of the week Bootham ‘B’ defeated their ‘A’ team 4-2 in the York Conservative Club’s Faber Shield Billiards League.

Victories by Alf Appleby, Matt Smith and Tim Fillingham (21 break) against replies from Jeff Brown and Nick Parker also earned them the aggregate for a 4-2 win.

Bootham ‘B’ went 3-0 ahead of unbeaten league leaders Acomb with wins by Matt Smith, Ray Stamp and captain Ian Robinson.

Acomb fought back with replies from John Ashwell (20 bk), who overturned a 29 aggregate deficit with a 150-103 victory, and Paul Holmes, with a narrow 13 points win, to ensure that Acomb gleaned a 3-3 draw.

Heworth continued their winning run with a 5-1 defeat of hosts Fulford.

Jason Milner (24 bk) and Gary Rogers (62, 41, 41 unfinished) gave them a head start before Colin Neal had a 78-point win to give Fulford a 34-point aggregate advantage.

Keith Watkinson scraped home against Alan Reed with a 14-point run before Steve Burdett (24, 25 bks) gained Heworth’s fourth game point and overturned the aggregate to make it 5-1.
