CITY of York Hockey Club women’s seconds were shaded in a five-goal Yorkshire League premier division thriller by Sheffield Hallam seconds.
Early York dominance was undone by a breakaway Hallam goal. And despite Rosemary Wilkins and top performer Amanda Blacker excelling in defence, two more goals were notched by Sheffield before Vicky Skilton replied with a reverse-stick rebound.
A penalty enabled Fiona Gemmell to convincingly score the flick and trim the arrears to a single goal, but while York applied stern pressure, Sheffield remained strong to win.
