WITH only two tournaments in the European Tour remaining, York’s king of clubs Simon Dyson is fighting a major battle to return to the world’s top 50 players.

A poor final round in the Barclays Singapore Open unhinged what would have been an ascent in the world ratings.

Going into the final day at the thunderstorm-lashed Sentosa course, Dyson was tied for sixth place.

But a glut of no fewer than five bogey fives in his first ten holes on the final day left him with a round of 74 and a share of 24th place in the $6 million event.

While he earned a cheque for almost £40,000, Dyson dropped two more places to 65th in the world rankings.

He now has only the Hong Kong Open starting on Thursday and the season-climaxing Dubai World Championships two weeks later in which to press his claims.

A slot in the globe’s leading 50 players by the end of the year automatically gets him into all four majors for 2013, including the Masters, which Malton & Norton Golf Club star Dyson is eager to have another crack at next spring.
